We’re not waiting for permission to tell our stories.
Justice for My Sister (JFMS) supports BIPOC women, nonbinary youth, foster youth, and survivors of violence to become the next generation of filmmakers, activists, and cultural workers. Through trauma-informed storytelling and radical training programs, we’re reimagining a more just media ecosystem, one story at a time.
This Is How We Do It – Our Programs
Justice for My Sister’s mission is to train women of color, nonbinary youth, foster youth, and survivors of gender-based violence to make films with a gender equity and racial justice lens, as a means to heal from trauma and overcome financial barriers to entering the TV & film industry.
And here’s how we do that:
We build youth leadership through art and storytelling
From healing-centered after-school programs to teen filmmaking intensives, we work with young people ages 10–18 to develop their creative voices, build confidence, teach media literacy, and leadership rooted in community.

Justice for My Sister worked with Netflix to create a Behind the Scenes special for Gentefied in 2019. The Netflix series was two seasons long and followed a Latinx family navigating gentrification in the City of Los Angeles. Gentefied brought Latinx stories and perspectives to the screen.
10 Years of Impact
Since 2015, Justice for My Sister has trained and mentored thousands of BIPOC women, nonbinary youth, foster youth, and survivors through film production, storytelling, and leadership development.
Our impact goes far beyond what can be counted, but the numbers reflect just some of the incredible work we’ve achieved together over the last decade. Each film, each workshop, and each job placement tells a story of creativity, care, and community-led transformation.
We’re proud of this foundation and we’re building toward an even more just, joyful, and inclusive media future.
